Message from the Associate Chair

On behalf of the Custody Review Board (CRB), I am pleased to welcome you to our website.

On January 25th, 2011, the Custody Review Board became part of the newly designated social justice tribunals cluster.  This second cluster brings together our Board and six other important adjudicative tribunals –Child and Family Services Review Board, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, Landlord and Tenant Board, Social Benefits Tribunal and Special Education Tribunal (English) and Special Education Tribunal (French). The mandate of these tribunals is to provide all Ontarians with timely access to specialized, expert and effective dispute resolution in a wide range of matters that profoundly affect their everyday lives.

The cluster is led by Executive Chair Michael Gottheil. The former Chairs of the seven adjudicative tribunals were re-designated as Associate Chairs. You may find more information about the Executive Chair, the social justice tribunals cluster, its structure and access to the seven tribunals website at www.sjto.gov.on.ca.

The CRB is a tribunal that has been conducting reviews since 1985.  The Board conducts reviews and hearings on a number of matters affecting young persons who are placed in youth custody facilities or adult maximum security facilities.

The website provides easy access to information about the Custody Review Board’s review and hearing processes.

It is our hope that the Board’s website will offer useful and detailed information about all aspects of the Board’s work to assist Provincial Directors and youth in understanding their rights when a review is requested.
